LEADERSHIP
AT DIVERGENT GLOBAL
It might sound obvious but we want God to lead DIVERGENT CHURCH, we desire to be a Spirit led community, founded on God's Word and focused on Jesus. Such a statement can sound somewhat a given but that stated reality shapes our understanding and direction as a Church.
Our key leadership team positions are those who shoulder the primary responsibility to seek God, to understand where he is leading us and to help bring the whole community on that journey.

DIVERGENT GLOBAL OVERSIGHT
Divergent's Global oversight is made up of experienced leaders from across a number of key communities, backgrounds, and ministries.
OVERSIGHT / ELDERSHIP - External leaders

Rick and Naomi Burrell – Strong Nation Churches, Western Sydney/Blue Mtns
Hamish and Anne Thompson - Abundant Life Church Wellington, NZ
Luke and Katherine Fletcher - Rivers Edge Church, Newington, Sydney
When there is a need for additional oversight, discipline, or response to problems that may arise, this team with the Divergent Board and if needed, the leadership of the ACC are charged and available to respond as appropriate.

In each region our teams are led by a local Leader and their team. The shape of these teams reflect the stage of development and context within which they operate.
Each of the regional Leaders relate directly to the Divergent Global Leadership. The identities of these leaders are usually on each Locations page. That said, what matters more than any individual leader, is our dedication to following the lead of Jesus in all things as unified Leadership teams and communities.
GATHERING LEADERSHIP
In each of our gatherings, there are gathering leaders. Most of those operate as deacons with immediate ministry leadership focus. There may be a couple or single person who is the primary leader however all our leadership works in teams. It is also the case that the general gatherings leadership maybe in the hands of more than one person.
LEGAL GOVERNANCE

TEAM LEADERSHIP
Leadership is not something carried alone and a narrow focus on a specific Leadership Gifting is also ultimately not healthy for the Church. Divergent Church also does not see itself simply a single cell community but rather one that is called to rise as a movement of communities and believers engaged with the called of God in every context of their lives. This environment and belief spurs us to see a Church that multiples and diversifies it's leadership giftings and strength.
GATHERING LEADERSHIP
Our specific Sunday Gatherings are lead by different local Pastors and teams, our heart is that our unified strength can enable us to diversify and extend the kingdom.
EVERY BELIEVER IS A MINISTER
The key role of Leadership scripturally is not to be 'ministers' to a group of spectators but rather equippers of the saints for ministry (Eph 4:11 - 12) releasing each person and the community into God's design for our lives individually and as a community. DIVERGENT CHURCH has a limited 'paid Church staff' but has a community of ministers (some of whom are specifically leaders) that are called to bring the Gospel to a world without the Saviour.
