Words have Power - Salt and Light Series - Supernatural Focus

Words have power.

We all know what it feels like to have something spoken to us that’s hits us hard or impacts us deeply. Whether it’s positive or negative, words can have tremendous power and influence in our lives.

In scripture, we often see references made to ‘the word’. There are a few different definitions used in scripture, depending on which Greek word it originates from. I want to focus on a particular word used - the Greek term ‘Logos’. At its base, it means ‘to speak, command or tell something’. It is also used to describe Christ (1 John 1).

If we look a little deeper, however, the word used describes a position of deeper impact. Meaning not only something simply spoken, but something that is a birthed from the mind and heart, usually in the form of a word a statement or utterance. It’s the very manifestation of our inward thoughts and heart desires. For instance, when we speak we can communicate our very thoughts in a single moment. This is what makes words so powerful.

When God our Father sent Jesus to earth, he was the very manifestation and outpouring of Gods thoughts and heart towards us and the world we are in. He came to speak life and to set captives free. When he left, he sent the Holy Spirit in his place to do the same. He speaks to us constantly, revealing his heart towards us and his very thoughts about us and his answers to the world around us, including the situations we find ourselves in.

His heart beats for us and he loves to share that with us.

Hebrews 4:12 says

"The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

We see here that Gods word in our life - which is now communicated to us through His Spirit is one of power and might and has the ability to discern and deal with every belief, thought and attitude that does not reflect His heart. He can speak into our soul and divide all the lies we have believed and heart attitudes we have taken on from what is right, good and true and reflects his heart towards us.

I encourage you today, get in a position to be open to hearing his voice in your life, every day. Open your heart up to let him speak directly to you sharing his thoughts, heart desires and attitudes and let him separate out all the things that aren’t reflective of his Heart. Let him instead speak his deep fervent love into us. Give him freedom to have a place of impact in your heart, and let his words become the main influencer in your life. JESS
