Day 9 — Faith Over Fear

Day 9 — Faith Over Fear

Writer: Terri Thomson // Divergent Church Port Macquarie

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)

Theme: Courage rooted in the Spirit’s presence.

Prayer Focus: Choosing faith where fear has taken hold.

Reflection:

Fear has a way of shrinking our world.

It narrows our vision, shortens our breath, and convinces us to settle for less than what God is inviting us into. Fear often sounds reasonable. It dresses itself as caution, wisdom, or realism, but its fruit is always the same: retreat.

Paul reminds us that fear is not a gift from God. What God gives instead is far stronger and far kinder: power, love, and self-discipline. This is not loud courage or forced confidence. It is courage shaped by love, steady, grounded, and resilient.

Faith doesn’t deny uncertainty. It simply refuses to let uncertainty lead.

When one person chooses faith over fear, it matters. When many do, the whole community shifts. Homes change. Conversations change. Direction changes.

Today, notice where fear has been quietly setting limits. Then, gently but firmly, choose faith again.

Prayer:

Father, I break agreement with fear. Where anxiety has shaped my thinking, bring truth. Where hesitation has slowed obedience, bring courage. Fill our hearts and homes with Spirit-given strength. Let faith rise again—in us and among us.

Amen.

Personal Reflection

  1. Where has fear been influencing my decisions or limiting my obedience without me fully realising it?

  1. What would it look like for me to allow faith, rather than uncertainty, to lead in this current season?

  1. How might my choice to live by faith impact my home, church, or wider community?
