Six Reasons We Can Have Hope
Hope represents more than wishful thinking—it embodies confidence in God's control through all circumstances. Solid and unshakable hope becomes essential for everyone living in uncertain times. The good news? The Bible provides numerous reasons to maintain hope!
Hope forms the foundation of our Christian Church identity at Divergent Church, whether Divergent Church Canberra, Queanbeyan, Port Macquarie or our other family locations. No matter what life stage you find yourself in, God’s promises always remain true because His hope never fades. Here are six reasons from the Bible that provide us with hope—hope we can claim now and forever.

1. God’s Love Never Fails
Life can be unpredictable. Human relationships break apart, people trust us less, situations change, and life goes astray from our expectations. But one thing remains constant—God’s love. The Bible tells us His love is eternal, and nothing can separate us from it:
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39, NIV)
No mistake you make or setback you encounter can erase His love for you.
2. God Has a Plan for You
Ever feel like you’re wandering aimlessly? Uncertain about what lies ahead? You’re not alone! God has a plan and you are part of it. He is not nervous about the future. Whatever happens he is there.
"‘Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ Hebrews 13:5
Even though the path remains unclear, we can trust His intentions because He works everything out for our good.
3. Jesus Conquered Death
The story of Easter is more than just a historical event—it is the foundation of our hope! Jesus triumphed over death, proving that nothing is greater than His power:
"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Corinthians 15:55-57, NIV)
Since Jesus has defeated death, He is powerful enough to overcome every challenge we encounter. We don’t have to live in fear. We can live with confidence because we know He has secured the ultimate victory.
4. God’s Mercy is New Every Morning
Ever wake up feeling overwhelmed by your mistakes? Like you’ve run out of chances? The Bible reminds us that God’s mercy is new every day:
"Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." (Lamentations 3:22-23, NIV)
Each new day is a fresh start, regardless of what happened yesterday. Our past failures do not define us—God’s grace is always bigger.
5. God is Our Strength in Tough Times
Let’s be real—life can be hard. Sometimes we feel weak, exhausted, and overwhelmed. But we don’t have to face it alone. The Bible assures us that God is our refuge and strength:
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1, NIV)
In every challenge—big or small—He is right there with us, giving us the strength to keep going.
6. Our Future is Secure
Uncertainty about the future can steal our hope. But Jesus gives us an unshakable promise—our future is secure in Him:
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." (John 14:1-3, NIV)
No matter what happens in this life, we have the hope of eternity with God. Our future is not uncertain—it is certainly good in Jesus.
