You may be surprised to learn that there are more job opportunities than stacking shelves at Woolies or waiting on tables.

After all, not everyone is into retail. Also, uni students should be taking the opportunity to build their career CV while earning money.

For example, there have been numerous opportunities advertised for therapists, usually advertised as "therapy assistant" or "behaviour therapist", in PMQ. These jobs are particularly relevant for CSU Port Macquarie students completing degrees in psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, medicine, paramedicine, teaching, nursing or education.

One ad said: "We understand that university schedules can be demanding, so we offer flexible working hours to accommodate your schedule." Another ad said: "University students currently studying in a related field (Education, Psychology, Speech and Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy) are welcomed!."

Another opportunity - for anyone who likes walking - is meter reader for Skilltech, which advertises "flexibility of employment for university students". Applicants need to hold a current valid Driver’s License, focus on safety with a high level of attention to detail, enjoy working independently and autonomously, the ability to be on time, reliable, punctual and able to meet strict deadlines, a good level of fitness and physical ability, and being comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
